“Brain Biscuits”

Real-time video mixing and editing, sound reactive programming, AI and non-AI animation

About the Project

“Brain Biscuits” is an is an ambient, psychedelic audio-visual journey that begins on the streets of New York City and gradually unfolds into the abstract visual worlds created by Michelle Penland Dodson and Bryan Dodson. The project features original music composed by the artists, with rhythms and beats driving animations, effects, and visual transformations. Drawings, animations, and filmed footage are interwoven to form a dynamic, evolving canvas. The visuals were mixed and recorded live in real time with many iterations, allowing sound and image to continuously influence one another as the piece unfolds.

My Role

For this extended audiovisual journey, I collaborated with Bryan Dodson. Over many years, Bryan and I have built a huge library of short video clips that we perform live, adding effects, transitions, and audio-synced cues in real time. The visuals are mixed and recorded live alongside our original music in an experimental, improvisational way. While normally in the past we’ve performed our mixes live in front of an audience, this piece was captured in order to share with audiences on YouTube. Some of the animation tools I used for this include Maya, MidJourney, Stable Diffusion, After Effects, Notch, and Resolume.
