About the Project

Midnight Theatre is an innovative performance and event venue in Manhattan West that blends Art Deco-inspired design with cutting-edge audiovisual technology to create fully immersive experiences for live audiences. Surrounding the intimate 160-seat space is a 270-degree projection system that transforms the stage and surrounding walls into dynamic, animated environments, allowing each performance to transport audiences into new visual worlds and support a wide range of programming from music and cabaret to comedy and multimedia events. This immersive projection capability makes the theatre uniquely adaptable, with visuals that can digitally change the decor of the room and respond in real time to narrative or musical cues, redefining how audiences engage with performances in a theater setting.

My Role

For Midnight Theatre, I served in a multifaceted creative leadership role spanning Projection Designer, Art Director, and Lead Designer. I developed the projection design system, including content templates and a scalable production pipeline, and created and directed over 50 distinct vignette looks that allowed the immersive environment to shift seamlessly across performances and moods. As part of this process, I incorporated early, experimental uses of generative AI to expand the scale and variety of visual content, which was then thoughtfully combined with non-AI illustration, design, and animation techniques to maintain a cohesive aesthetic. In addition to the interior projection work, I designed a large-scale mural installed on the exterior second-floor facade of the building, extending the visual identity of the venue into the surrounding public space. I also led the design and direction of social media content related to shows at the theatre and created custom projection visuals for an original magic show.
